Chippewa Moraine Chapter
CHIPPEWA COUNTY
The Chippewa Lobe of the late Wisconsin Glaciation created the landscape of the Ice Age Trail in Chippewa County. West of Cornell is a spectacular end moraine land of lakes, highlighted by miles of existing Ice Age Trail. The Trail route is uncertain in the county east of the Chippewa River.
A major visitor center, less than a mile from the Ice Age Trail, is open to the public in the heart of the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age National Reserve. Modern exhibits describe the processes that created this unique dead-ice (stagnant-ice) moraine.
