Dane Savanna Restoration, Cross Plains Reserve

December 16, 2017 @ 9:00 am

We’ll continue our multi-year project to restore oak savanna to the steep western slopes of this property.  At this stage, we’re still removing invasive brush and weed trees that won’t survive the periodic fires needed to sustain a savanna plant community.  Trained and properly equipped sawyers are welcome, as are those willing to haul and pile the cuttings or prefer hand tools.  If you have a choice of boots, pick the pair with the best traction.  Also consider microspikes or Yak Traks if conditions are icy.    If we have snow cover, will burn some slash piles and cook sausage on sticks for lunch.  Wear old clothing made of natural fibers (no synthetics) to work around fires.  Contact leader for more details.
