#OptOutside Hike – Washington/Oz Co Chapter
November 29 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Skip the shopping and the crowds and instead join us on Black Friday for a hike! We will walk on the Ice Age Trail and other state park trails in the Kettle Moraine State Forest’s Pike Lake Unit. This hike is being held as part of REI’s #OptOutside campaign to get more people outdoors during the holidays. No gun deer hunting is allowed in the park, so this is a safe place to hike during the annual hunt.
LOCATION: The hike will start from the beach parking lot at the Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Hartford. A Wisconsin state park sticker is required. Click here for driving directions. Click here for a park map. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.
HIKE DESCRIPTION: A 4.6 mile hike along the blue trail encountering kettles and kames as we hike on the interlobate moraine. Enjoy panoramic views of Pike Lake and the surrounding countryside from the top of Powder Hill. The upper section of the blue trail includes an astronomy trail that will give you a true scale view of our solar system. A shorter loop hike of approximately 2.0 miles on the green trail may also be offered based on hiker interest.
WHAT TO BRING: Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water, sunscreen, and your camera.
