For the past several years, we have used mowers and brush cutters to reduce the sumac encroaching into prairie and savanna along the moraine.  This is this year’s main outing devoted to that effort.  Bring a brush cutter if you have one with proper protective equipment.  It’s likely we’ll also cut autumn olive, honeysuckle and buckthorn growing from bird-dispersed seed under the oaks.  Spraying the stumps with herbicide is one of the tasks we’ll have for those not using power tools or equipment.  Meet at the new lot on Wesner Rd.
