Northwoods Chapter Fall Colors Hike – Grandfather Falls Segment
Please join us as we explore the Grandfather Falls Segment. The fall colors should be peaking at this time. View the unique boulders and sculptured rock formations cause by thousands of years of cascading water at Grandfather Falls Dam – the largest waterfall on the Wisconsin river, with a total drop of almost 100 feet, and listen to the roar of the water over the rock formations as you traverse along the Wisconsin River.
LOCATION: Meet at the Camp New Wood County Park parking area on Hwy 107, at the south end of the segment, about 10 miles north and west of Merrill. Watch for yellow “Ice Age Trail Event” signs.
HIKE DESCRIPTION: We will hike approximately 3-miles along the Wisconsin River, with an option of hiking another out and back section through the school forest if attendees want to go farther.
WHAT TO BRING: Wear comfortable hiking boots and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water and insect repellant.
A free will offering for the local chapter is welcome
