Hiking near Tower Road can be a challenge for a section hiker. If your sole approach route by car is from Rib Lake, you may be much happier than accessing it from elsewhere in Lincoln County.

This outing’s focus is on the segments touching Tower Road in Lincoln County, map 26f. The current plan is:

Friday, central portions of Harrison Hills

Saturday, Averill-Kelly, Newwood; shift to Taylor County

Sunday, East Lake

Monday, Timberland Wilderness and eastern Wood Lake

Tuesday, central Jerry Lake, maybe Pine Line

At a minimum, we hope to complete some maintenance in the Wood Lake and East Lake segments.

Whether you are a backpacker, a slackpacker, or someone who prefers a bed and a pillow, you are welcome to come hike your way. With any luck, we’d like to have the day hikers hike in the opposite direction so the backpackers have people to run into while they are out hiking.

These segments including fording streams, crossing streams on a few trees requiring balance, and possibly wading through large ponds on old lumber roads so a variety of footwear will keep you happy. Ideal footwear includes barn boots, hiking boots, and water sandals.

To help us plan who is coming and when, we would appreciate your taking a survey to help us plan. Daily hike lengths will vary by participant, roughly 5-10 miles per day. You may choose to participate every day or only on certain days. Please respond before August 15 or call my home number.
