Waukesha/Milwaukee Co. Chapter – Senior Saunter Walk: Mukwonago River Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest

“Senior Saunter Walks” are back, featuring gentle 1-to-2-mile walks on paved paths. Led by chapter member, Mark Miner, they will be offered on the fourth Thursday of April, May and June.

The Walk:

Join us on a Senior Saunter Walk to explore Mukwonago River Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, previously known as Rainbow Springs Nature Preserve. You may have heard of Rainbow Springs. Decades ago, it was built as the Rainbow Springs Country Club, a 756 room hotel and convention center, along with a golf club, and 18-hole golf course. Construction began in the 1960’s, but by 1973, it was mired in debt and never opened.  Eventually, through a series of events, in 2012 the 970 acres became the property of the Wisconsin DNR, and were made available to the public for multiple recreational uses. This property, is situated in the Mukwonago River watershed and is an area known for its outstanding resource waters, varied habitats and biological diversity.

These walks are wheelchair and stroller-friendly and are not limited to seniors; all ages are invited to attend!

Details:

The original paved drives into the resort property serve as walking trails. Walking distance varies from 1 to 2+ miles. Walkers should dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash. Most importantly, bring water.
